Schwark - Mandolin:
Tom joins 3 Pints Gone for The Beaches of St. Valery on one of Stan Roger's most impressive songs, Mary Ellen Carter. Tom's mandolin part weaves in and out of this piece as the waves rolling against a ship as it sails. We all hope we honor Mr. Rogers with our arrangement of this piece and gladly say that it has brought us all together here in Milwaukee.
Special thanks to Tom for joining us!
Tom Schwark is a well-seasoned performer. Currently Tom sings & plays the mandolin & fiddle with the touring band The Reedy Buzzards. They "specialize in tight harmonies of the great vintage country family bands, blazing guitar and mandolin picking, and Gospel music."
On the side, he is manager and tenor mandolist for the Milwaukee Mandolin Orchestra, P.O. Box 11234, Milwaukee, WI 53211, (414)964-5161.
AMG EXPERT REVIEW: Frogwater is a Milwaukee-based acoustic quartet who've pooled their talents and diverse backgrounds together to create a rather unique musical amalgamation... Tom Schwark, who plays mandolin and fiddle, is a veteran bluegrass player who's recorded with Grass, Food and Lodging, a premier Midwest bluegrass outfit of yore; and Lil' Rev (Marc Revenson) contributes mandolin, guitar, harmonica and ukulele from his longtime folk-blues and old-timey perspective. Save for three original pieces, Live at Thai Joe's is comprised of traditional numbers revamped to suit their style. Throughout this album, traces of Leon Redbone, Natalie MacMaster, John Fahey and Bela Fleck emerge. However, Frogwater doesn't mimic any particular artist; rather, they incorporate the best and most compatible elements of these various folk styles.
