1. The Burning of Achindoun:

Traditional Scottish

Kathleen Mullaly Masino - Lead vocal
Bill Masino - Harmony vocal

This song reminds us of the Scottish clan wars and ruthlessness of some lesser Lords and their raids on their neighbors. As Kathleen sings the lead in her rich lower tones it showcases the dissonance of Bill’s crisp tenor harmony.

Bill & Kathleen first heard this song performed by a renaissance festival group called ‘The Bawdy Beggar Girls.’ The group is no longer together but one of the two ladies, Jacquie Manning,  performs Folk music with her husband as "Small Potatoes".

Roscommon Castle, Co Roscommon, Ireland

 Lyrics:

As I came in by Fiddich-side,
On a May morning,
I spied Willie McIntosh,
An hour before the dawning.

Turn again, Turn again, Turn again I bid ye;
If ye burn Achindoun, Huntly he will heid ye.

Heid me or hang me, that will never fear me;
I’ll burn Auchindoun ner’ the life leaves me.

As I came in by Achindoun,
On a May morning,
Achindoun was in a blaze,
An hour before the dawning.

Crawing, crawing, For a’ ya crowes crawing,
Ye burnt your crops and singed your wings,
An hour before the dawning.
